Mission Statement

Work Truck 101 was founded after supervising and being an Operations Manager in the well testing industry for over 30 years, during that time I have witnessed or encountered almost every truck related blunder that can occur. All of these blunders are typically results of our employees that operate crew trucks being untrained, uninformed or unaware of the Commercial Vehicle Regulations or common sense operator knowledge that apply to commercial vehicles which only require a class 5 or 5Q to operate. Over the years I have worked at numerous companies and almost every company interprets their understanding of commercial vehicle regulations in their own uniquely incorrect ways. recognizing the widespread lack of understanding of commercial vehicle regulations as they apply to crew trucks, the rare case of common sense from today's talent pool, the fact that most companies highest percentage of recordable incidents are vehicle-related, not to mention the profit lost from vehicle and equipment damage by drivers not knowing proper ways to perform a function with vehicle. Having unsuccessfully searched for a training course that can educate on crew truck sized commercial vehicles, I have created one that is a complete crew truck training course, I have spent several months designing, researching all the applicable regulations and translating them into an understandable language. I also have included over 35 general knowledge/operator tips on a regular day to day situations a crew truck may encounter.

Company History

Work Truck 101 was started by Mikel Bell in 2018. From childhood growing up on a mixed farm in Central AB, and throughout my 33-year career in the oilfield, which has taken me from entry level position to 20 years as a supervisor and 10 years as an Operations Managers for various well testing and service companies in Canada & USA. During this time I have witnessed or encountered almost every blunder possible where crew trucks are involved and observed there are many companies and drivers that have a misleading understanding of the commercial vehicle regulations that concern the smaller commercial vehicles only requiring a class 5 or 5Q to operate. I have taken my experiencer and knowledge of normal operations and regular issues regarding crew trucks researched all the regulations from Alberta's Traffic Safty Act, all NSC Standards and Transport Canada that apply to smaller commercial vehicles that only require a class 5 or 5Q to legally operate. Taking all the relevant regulations and translating them into simple terms and explanations that average vehicle operators will understand. I have also included pointers or reminders on basic crew truck operations and typical situations encountered day to day -- from vehicle assignment to site arrival and all scenarios between, that can be costly in time and money. With the current economy and average 'common sense' level coming from today's talent pool, makes this course a much-needed addition to any company's safety, driver programs or even part of standard employee orientation, expect in near future much closer scrutiny of crew trucks by commercial vehicle enforcement.
